Ubotica raises $11 million for maritime intelligence from space

Act Venture Capital and Greencode Ventures led the funding round which will help the Irish space tech rollout its orbital AI maritime system.

Key takeaways

  • Ubotica has raised $11 million in funding with Act Venture Capital and Greencode Ventures leading the round
  • Existing investor Atlantic Bridge also participated
  • The funding will support deployment of Ubotica's space-residing AI maritime surveillance

Irish space technology company Ubotica Technologies raised $11 million to accelerate the commercial rollout of its Live Maritime Intelligence platform, which uses AI in orbit to detect emerging threats across large maritime areas, the company reported in June.

The round was led by Act Venture Capital and Greencode Ventures, with participation from existing investor Atlantic Bridge. Ubotica said the funding will support deployment of the platform, which combines its Orbital AI technology with autonomous ground-to-orbit tasking to identify areas of elevated maritime risk and dynamically focus satellite sensing assets on emerging activity.

The company said its Orbital AI technology has already run hundreds of thousands of AI inferences in orbit and deployed more than 30 Earth observation models across multiple satellite missions, with a 100% mission success rate.

Ubotica said it has seen significant demand for Live Maritime Intelligence over the past 12 months from governments and maritime agencies seeking to monitor large exclusive economic zones and protect critical infrastructure, including undersea communications cables, offshore energy assets, pipelines and strategic shipping routes.

“Ubotica has spent years pioneering Orbital AI, and we have applied that knowledge to one of the hardest security challenges on Earth: protecting vast maritime zones and critical offshore infrastructure,” said Fintan Buckley, CEO of Ubotica Technologies.

Live Maritime Intelligence is designed to reduce response times by processing data closer to where it is collected, allowing satellite networks to identify emerging risks and direct sensing assets toward them. Ubotica said the investment will allow it to bring the platform to market at scale.

The company has worked with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the European Space Agency and says its technology has enabled a spacecraft to autonomously identify a target and reorient itself to capture it.
