Quantum Systems secures Blackstone and Airbus backing with $1.2 billion Series D raise

The German neoprime has a valuation of $8 billion after recieving backing from European aerospace giant Airbus and the world's largest alternative investor, Blackstone.

Key takeaways

  • Quantum Systems raised $1.2 billion in a Series D funding round co-led by Blackstone, Noteus, Airbus and Advent.
  • The funding will expand production and accelerate software and AI development for autonomous defence systems across air, land and sea.
  • The German company reported that its systems carried out more than 19,000 missions in Ukraine during 2025.

German defence technology company Quantum Systems signed a $1.2 billion Series D funding round co-led by Blackstone, Noteus, Airbus and Advent, valuing the business at approximately $8 billion on 2 July, 2026. The financing will support the company’s expansion of software-defined autonomous systems across air, land and sea as European and allied militaries seek interoperable uncrewed capabilities.

The round also attracted BOND, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Wellington Management, A.P. Moller Holding and Elephant Lake Ventures, alongside existing shareholders Balderton Capital and HV Capital. Quantum Systems, self-described as a ‘neoprime’, said the financing more than doubled its valuation.

The company develops uncrewed platforms and software powered by artificial intelligence, with applications spanning military intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, autonomous ground systems and maritime operations.

“With the Series D, Quantum Systems will accelerate the transition from individual uncrewed platforms to an interoperable family of systems,” the company said in its announcement.

The proceeds will fund expanded production capacity and further investment in software and AI. Quantum Systems also agreed to deepen its collaboration with Airbus Defence and Space to develop sovereign European defence capabilities.

Co-CEO and co-founder Florian Seibel said: “The future is unmanned. Defence will be defined by autonomous systems that can operate together across domains in real time.”

The company said its systems carried out more than 19,000 missions in Ukraine during 2025. Its production footprint spans Germany, Ukraine, the United States, Australia, Romania, the United Kingdom and the Baltic states.

The financing follows a series of earlier investments in Quantum Systems. In May 2025, the company raised €160 million in a Series C round, followed by a €180 million Series C extension led by Balderton Capital in November. At the time of the extension, Quantum Systems said its valuation had exceeded €3 billion.

The Series D adds significant capital to a European defence technology company seeking to move beyond individual drone platforms toward connected autonomous systems that can operate across multiple domains and allied forces.
